Dorothea Jattan

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP-BC

Dorothea Jattan is a Board-Certified (BC) Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). She uses a person-centered approach to address symptoms associated with mental health, such as depression and anxiety, to improve mood, focus, and life satisfaction. She does clinical evaluations, cognitive assessments, and medication management. She specializes in providing treatment to adults ages 18 and up to treat depression, anxiety, bipolar, post-traumatic stress Disorder (PTSD), and other mental health illnesses. Sharing private and personal information with a provider is usually uncomfortable. Still, Dorothea’s professionalism and caring personality make her patients comfortable describing personal symptoms and situations to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.

Dorothea believes that as a collective, we hold certain beliefs and values that can bring us together or prevent us from moving forward. At some point, most of us will reflect on our lives and desire to improve certain aspects that we are unhappy about or wish to improve, such as our satisfaction level or relationships. We may reflect on obstacles preventing us from achieving the best version of ourselves and realize some of our behaviors or techniques have become ineffective. As your provider, Dorothea will create a safe space for you to come as you are without judgment or expectations. Our minds are powerful tools that can affect how we interact with the world around us; together, let’s explore what matters in your mind.

Dorothea credits her down-to-earth personal approach to her upbringing. She is from the rural Pacific Northwest, raised on a small farm with a strong community where neighbors were family, and helping was a language of love. From a young age, Dorothea felt a strong purpose to help others and contribute to the community, and she naturally gravitated to health care. Her move to Florida was the beginning of an incredible new life adventure. She joined the only Level One Trauma hospital in NE Florida for over ten years. She found assisting patients and their families on the worst day of their lives was an honor and a period of personal growth. She noticed that patients suffering in silence from their trauma took a toll on them and their families. It can be difficult to openly address things like anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and other mental illnesses. She was passionate about making a difference, so she graduated from Jacksonville University (JU) as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

We know experiencing a traumatic event is only one reason to seek guidance for mental health-related issues; there are a variety of other circumstances that may lead you to a mental health provider. Dorothea will be mindful of supporting your unique values and lifestyle in your treatment. In life, we all need to feel accepted and cared for. We need community and a place to feel valued, heard, and protected. Dorothea will offer a safe place to discuss and collaborate honestly on achieving joy and having your best life. She believes in a holistic approach to treatment based on the patient’s beliefs and preferences. Her services include cognitive assessments, clinical evaluation & diagnosis, Functional Medicine, and medication management. Call today for an appointment with Dorothea.
